Getting Started

On-Site Users

  • First, contact the Associate Lab Manager, Nicole Hedges, who can advise you on the feasibility of your proposed project and how we can work together to accomplish your goals. We realize the importance of approaching today's research challenges with an open mind. Do not give up if the facility currently does not have the process or tool you need; we will do our best to create that capability with you.
  • Once we know that we can help you, we will ask you to fill out an application form, found below, to initiate your project. If you are a graduate student, the form must be filled out and signed by your advisor. The application will provide us the overall goal and the essential details of your projects.
    • This form includes the required billing information to get your project setup in our internal system. External users will be required to provide a Purchase Order to charge you against. If you are a NCSU user you will need to provide a valid FAS#. Note that the NNF will end your project the month before your FAS# expires to reduce the risk that you will receive an invoice that you cannot cover.
    • We will also ask you to provide a Process Flow Traveler Document. This will help the NNF determine what specific tools you will need in our facility and how to best help you design your process to accomplish your goals while minimizing the risk to the equipment. An example document is found at the bottom of the page.
  • You will be given a project number and a staff person will be assigned to your project. The staff person will provide assistance to you particularly during the early phases of your project.
  • You will then be asked to sign an agreement, found below, which describes laboratory safety, liability, limits on use, intellectual property and fees.
  • All new users are required to pass the NNF safety test, based on the online Safety Manual, before they are allowed to enter the facility on their own. The safety test is administered in the NNF Office Area, MRC 229.¬†
    • Please schedule a 1 hour test slot with the Sharon Guidry.
  • Once the paperwork is complete, you will be given your own security code to enter the facility and User Profile to interact with equipment.
